Gabapentin is a prescription medicine used for many different medical conditions. This drug is used to help treat and control partial seizures. It is also often used with other medications to treat symptoms of epilepsy in adults as well children of at least 3 years of age. Gabapentin may also be used to treat postherpetic neuralgia. This is a condition where pain is caused due to nerve damage by a skin condition called shingles; a painful skin rash that usually occurs among adults. It is caused due to the herpes zoster infection and is common among people who have had chickenpox. Gabapentin, for this reason, can also be called an anti-seizure drug or an antiepileptic drug.
