Common Side Effects of Benadryl (Diphenhydramine)

Benadryl is a common antihistamine that diminishes the effects of histamine which is a natural chemical in the body. Histamine is responsible for producing symptoms of itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.

Benadryl is effective in treating runny nose, skin rash, hives, itching, watery eyes, and other allergy and cold symptoms. It is used to relieve symptoms such as sinus congestion, pain, upper respiratory infections, and sneezing due to colds. It is also used to treat and prevent vomiting, nausea, and dizziness caused by motion sickness and particular symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It is also helpful in making you relax and fall asleep.

This medicine blocks histamine that is produced by the body during an allergic reaction. It helps to combat the symptoms of runny nose and watery eyes by blocking acetylcholine which is another natural substance produced by the body.

Cough and cold products are not considered safe for children under 6 years of age unless particularly prescribed by the doctor. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for further details before taking this drug safely.

Benadryl is a decongestant, antihistamine, and analgesic combination. The decongestant action of this medicine works by reducing the swelling in the nasal passages and constricting blood vessels that decrease stuffiness. The analgesic works by helping to decrease pain, and antihistamine blocks the action of histamine.
